Scott C. Litin, M.D., is a consultant in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Litin joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1981 and holds the academic rank of professor of medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Litin did his undergraduate training at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and was a member of one of the first classes to enter Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. He also completed a residency at Mayo Clinic as well as a fellowship where he served as senior clinical fellow in the Division of Area General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Litin is noted for his expertise in issues of anticoagulation, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, hyperlipidemia, and laboratory enzyme abnormalities, and pre-anesthesia medical examinations. His research interests are primarily related to clinical care issues.
Dr. Litin has authored numerous medical journal articles and served in editorial capacities for several Mayo Clinic publications, including Mayo Proceedings. He is editor-in-chief of Mayo Clinic Family Health Book, Third, Fourth, and Fifth editions, and editor of Mayo Clinic A to Z Health Guide.
A distinguished practitioner, lecturer and teacher, Dr. Litin has served in numerous leadership positions at Mayo Clinic and nationally. In recognition of his work, he has received many Mayo Clinic awards, including the prestigious Henry S. Plummer Distinguished Physician Award, the Distinguished Clinician Award, and the Distinguished Educator Award from Mayo Clinic. The American College of Physicians has recognized him as a Master of the College.
Dr. Litin is actively involved in continuing education programs for practicing physicians and is frequently an invited speaker at medical gatherings. His educational awards include the Outstanding CME Faculty Award and the Outstanding CME Course Director Award from Mayo Clinic. He now spends a portion of his time teaching and tutoring medical students, residents and faculty physicians in ways to improve their presentation skills.
